Roses are red, violets are blue, the future of aged care is up to you
Caring for Older Australians is what we do – it is also the title of the Productivity Commission’s report which proposes reforms for Australia’s aged care system to meet the challenges of our ageing population.
Aged and Community Services Australia (ACSA) Acting CEO Pat Sparrow said Valentine’s Day encourages people to show how much they care for a loved one.
“We can also show how much we care for the future welfare of older people by supporting reforms in aged care,” Ms Sparrow said.
“The Productivity Commission’s draft report has laid the foundations for fundamental reforms in how and where older people are supported in their old age.
“ACSA has joined with other stakeholders including aged care unions and consumers in supporting the broad thrust of the report’s recommendations.
“Changing how we fund aged care is critical to ensure a sustainable system to provide more choice and better access to quality care. Increased funding is also essential to pay competitive wages for our remarkable workforce.”
Ms Sparrow said continuing impetus for the Government to act on its commitment to reform aged care will be spurred on by people being prepared to champion older Australians’ entitlement to quality aged care.
Ms Sparrow will attend the Australian Nursing Federation (ANF) Day of Action in Melbourne today (February 14) to support a united approach to reform and will be available for comment.
