Palliative Care Sub Group Added to Expert Ageing Advisory Group: Since the PC Aged Care Reform Update of 26 October, a Palliative Care Sub Group has been added to the Expert Ageing Advisory Group’s list of five sub groups because it was seen as a critical area. The other groups are: Quality of Care; Workforce; Wellness Approach; Financing, Care and Accommodation; and Assessment, Choice and Consumer Oriented Care.

Aged and Community Services Australia (ACSA) CEO Patrick McClure, AO, will address the final day, 15 September, of the 2011 ACSA National Conference on the once in a generation opportunity to change Australia’s aged care system. Mr McClure said the unprecedented unity on the need for reform, coupled with the Productivity Commission’s report, hailed a new era for caring for older Australians. “We are on the threshold of developing a system which can be sustainable and capable of delivering services to meet the growing and diverse needs of our ageing population,” Mr McClure said.

The UK Commission on Funding of Care and Support delivered its final report - Fairer Care Funding - to the UK Government in July this year with the aim of giving older people peace of mind when it comes to aged care services.
