Case Management Discussion Paper
The community care system is in a period of review and reform. The Australian Government has released a paper The Way Forward which sets broad directions for the reform process and this provides an opportunity for case management and its role to be actively and appropriately
considered. Aged & Community Services Australia (ACSA) and the Case Management Society of Australia (CMSA) have recognised the need for a policy direction for case management in relation to the community care service system. This paper:
• describes case management and its role in community care;
• articulates the distinctive features of case management; and
• demonstrates the benefits and outcomes case management can deliver for individual
clients, their natural networks and the community care system as a whole.
